Laser Hair Removal Machines

Not all laser hair removal machines are created equal. There are several types used in salons and others that you can buy for home use.

The Thermolase Corporation’s Soft Light Hair Removal System was the first machine to receive FDA approval for professional use in 1995 and since then laser hair removal machines have gone through constant improvement.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is the laser hair removal equipment used in most of the spas and clinics. These machines use a principle known as selective photothermolysis which works best where there is a strong contrast between hair and skin. The laser emits a strong beam of light (or pulse) for a millisecond which is directed at the skin. The wavelengths of light are calculated so that they are absorbed by the melanin pigment in any dark hair present, destroying it while leaving the lighter surrounding skin unharmed.

All laser hair removal machines work in a similar way

All laser hair removal machines work in a similar way, but there are some differences between them

The Alexandrite laser works on this principle sending a pulse of light into the subdermal skin where the hair follicles are situated. The aim is to damage hair follicles with the heat from the laser while they are in their active hair growth phase.

Diode lasers use miniature diodes or semi-conductors to produce longer wavelengths of laser light energy. This type of laser hair removal machine is more effective in treating dark complexions where the contrast between skin and hair is not so great.

Other salons use a YAG laser which produces rapid pulses of laser light with two different wavelengths – one pulse of infrared light which goes deeper into the skin to treat the hair follicles lying there, and one of green light which treats those nearer the surface. This is effective at treating more of the hair in one go.

You’ll hear other names talked about too which offer variations of these models – they all have their advantages. Be sure to ask your specialist about the different machines available when you go for treatment in particular if you have a dark complexion.

Because of the precision technology involved, professional hair removal machines are expensive and training to operate them may take up to 30 hours. This makes laser hair removal one of the most expensive beauty treatments around.

With the expense involved many people expect miracles from their treatment but laser hair removal is not an instant success type of treatment. Yes, you will see a big reduction in hair growth but you may need a course of treatments before you see permanent hair removal and even then a few “top up” sessions may be needed.

Even so, you can cover large areas of the body in a relatively short amount of time – whole legs, arms, back and chest which gives the laser method an edge over electrolysis. And it generally leaves skin smooth and soft as well as hair free so you can see why it is becoming increasingly popular.

If you are thinking about getting laser hair removal treatment, you will want to know “how many treatments?” and “how much will this cost?” but hair removal specialists can only give an estimate at best and it depends on how your particular hair and skin reacts.

This makes home hair removal systems seem like such a good idea. You buy the equipment and then you can use it in the privacy of your own home for as long as it takes and as often as you like to achieve permanent removal of unwanted hair. The Ultimate Hair Removal Machine

The ultimate hair removal machine is one that you can use yourself in the privacy of your own home to zap your hair until you never see it again. It causes no pain or discomfort at all, it doesn’t make a mess, is easy to use and you are done with it in a few minutes.

Does such a magic hair removing machine exist?

Well, not quite! But we are getting close with some of the newer innovations on the market these days although lets face it, removing hair from the root which is surrounded by nerve ends is never going to pain or discomfort free unless you are anesthetized.

So what are these new permanent hair removal machines? Unfortunately you will hear about many more machines in advertisements than can actually do the job so you do have to be careful not to believe all you read about every “permanent hair removal machine”.

Here are the two that I have looked into quite a bit. They have, it has to be said, mixed reviews but in many cases that is due to the unrealistically high expectations of some customers rather than a fault with the machines. Permanent hair removal is always going to be a slow process needing plenty of patience but if you are willing to learn the skills and techniques, these machines will do the job.

1. Laser Hair Removal

The laser hair removal machine which seems to have the best reviews from genuine customers is the Silk’n. It is only for those who want to remove body hair and who have dark hair and fair skin but if you belong in that category you should take a look at this. Unfortunately home laser hair removal machines have not been developed which deal with darker skins (although there are some machines in clinics which claim to have success with darker skins even professional laser treatment is not as effective with darker skin coloring). Also the machine is not considered safe to use on your face so do not buy it for that purpose.

2. Electrolysis

There is a permanent hair removal machine which has been around for years and which is the only solution in my view for treating facial hair at home for permanent removal. This electrolysis machine gets little attention because it takes a bit of practice and patience to get used to it and make it work for you but it is effective if you are determined to deal with an unwanted hair problem at home. It is the One Touch electrolysis hair removal machine. Whereas the home laser machines cost a few hundred dollars this little machine costs little. Just don’t expect miracles unless you are prepared to work with it. And it probably not wise to practice on your face until you know what you are doing and are happy with the results you are getting from working on a leg or arm!

Instead of waiting for your three wishes from the genie, and asking for one of those pain free no fuss models, check out these two machines and see if they are worth buying in the absence of a miracle.

Best Selling Laser Hair Removal Machines

There are quite a lot of laser hair removal machines on the market these days and of course, some sell better than others. The problem is that best selling is not so much a factor of which are the best home laser machines but a factor of which manufacturers are best at marketing.

And when it comes to marketing and advertisements, try not to get too carried away, because you cannot believe everything you read.

Although there are rules about false advertising and disclosure, all manufacturers and distributors do their best to present their laser machines in the best possible light and you will not see anything negative about any machine in the ads. Just because a lot of others have bought a particular model does not mean that they have not been disappointed and feel that they wasted their money. Just because a particular system is “As seen on TV” does not mean that it worked when a lot of consumers paid good money.

Does best selling always mean the best system?

If you are looking for a home laser hair removal machine the only way you should let others sway you is by reading the comments from genuine buyers you can find on the web. Don’t use the manufacturers’ sites except to get a list of features of a product and details like that. Go to sites like Amazon which publish proper customer reviews, both positive and negative, to get a balance of opinion.

An example of such a page on Amazon would be this one. This page about the Silk’n system has over 15 reviews and there are some buyers who have given an initial impression and then updated their review later as they have continued their laser hair treatment.

Not all reviews are positive!

You will always find with laser machines that some people have a false expectation of instant results, so expect some negatives in any group of more than a few customer reviews. With professional laser treatment, you must spend over a thousand dollars and attend about 6 to 8 sessions over a number of months as hair which was not in the right growth phase always grows back so a home laser machine which is necessarily weaker than that used in professional laser hair removal clinics where equipment costs tens of thousands of dollars is bound to take longer and result in some regrowth until the hair is finally destroyed. Also you might find if you have coarser hair, home laser hair removal is not suitable for you and you need the strength of professional laser equipment to deal with it, whereas the equipment might work perfectly on someone with finer hair.
