New Hair Removal Treatments

I am constantly on the lookout for new hair removal treatments because the ones that we have at the moment are far from ideal in one shape or form. Every one has a significant disadvantage.

Laser Hair Removal

If you look at laser hair removal treatments, then the main disadvantage is cost (see Average laser hair removal price) and of course, it does not work well on some coloring types as the equipment relies on targeting the pigment in hair and avoiding the pigment in skin. If they are too similar or there’s not much pigment in your hair then it’s a problem. In a nutshell, it means laser treatment for hair removal is not great for you if you have dark skin or fair hair.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone

Even if you are a good candidate for treatment there is the inconvenience of getting to the clinic (hopefully there is one near you) for several sessions and you have to suffer the pain of having a laser beam directed at your skin. Of course, it’s not so much actual agonizing pain as the discomfort of having a whole heap of mini rubber bands pinged at you one after the other in quick succession but you’d still rather not suffer it.

Electrolysis

Of the permanent hair removal treatments available, however, laser hair treatment still has a lot to offer because the other one, electrolysis, works well on everyone but it is very slow especially if you need or want to treat a large area such as your back or legs.

You will need many electrolysis sessions over a long time and the costs mount up for that too. Each hair has to be dealt with individually and usually more than once as they are only killed if you zap them in the right place and at the right stage in the growth cycle. That means many inconvenient appointments at the salon for months on end! Still, it is the best of the facial hair removal treatments on offer at the moment because it gets rid of the problem permanently and you’ll never suffer any regrowth.

Temporary Hair Removal Methods

Even though laser treatment and electrolysis involve inconvenient sessions at a salon or clinic, it’s not to say that anything else is any more convenient. Every other hair removal treatment has to be done over and over again because the hair grows back – and a lot quicker than you want it to. The main salon treatment for unwanted hair is waxing and that is painful too. It will leave your skin red and sore for a few hours but at least it only needs to be redone every few weeks. Nevertheless it’s the best temporary solution we have at the moment for keeping you hair free and smooth for a while and it can be used on all parts of the body. Threading hair removal would be a contender in the salon treatments you can have for hair removal but it is generally only practiced (at least in the west) on the face.

So these hair removal methods are basically the only treatments you can have at the moment to get hair removed. I’m always amazed that they have not come up with anything new in the last 40 or so years (since laser hair removal became a possibility). Surely someone could have invented some smart new hair removal treatments by now – you know the one that is cheap, permanent, fast and pain free. We can but live in hope.

What’s New in Hair Removal Methods?

Now that we are in 2010, you would think that there would be more than a couple of new ways to remove unwanted hair. After all scientists have got us to the moon. You would not think it was too much to ask to find some outstanding permanent hair removal methods. But apparently it is. Perhaps those scientists are just not focusing on things which really matter to our everyday lives.

Anyway, just to round up on the latest, here are the best hair removal techniques in 2010. There are probably some things which are new to you, especially if you have just started doing something about excess hair or have not refreshed your methods of hair removal for a year or two.

Facial Hair Removal Methods

The best way of removing facial hair permanently is still by electrolysis and this has been around for years. What you may not know is you can buy an electrolysis kit for home use, although it has to be said the One Touch electrolysis machine (which is the best of the home electrolysis systems) takes a little getting used to and you should practice on other parts of your body before tackling your face. As for temporary methods, threading has become fashionable as a salon treatment for removing hair from your face in recent years. If you just want a quick tool for getting rid of facial hair at home take a look at the REM spring facial hair remover which is a nifty little gadget for removing hair quickly similar to threading (but easier to do yourself).

Body Hair Removal Methods

The laser hair removal methods come into their own for getting rid of body hair. Nothing comes close to them in terms of speed of operation and being able to treat large areas in one go. Although you won’t necessarily get permanent removal of all the hair, you should get enough of a permanent reduction to be happy with the treatment. You will also find that techniques and machines have improved in recent years, so much so that success rates are higher than they used to be. Also, you’ll find home laser hair removal machines on the market which you may not have been aware of before. These are not as effective as the machines in clinics but the best machines do work over time (and the costs are far lower than for professional laser hair treatment).

Leg Hair Removal Methods

Epilators have been around for a while however there are major innovations in pain relief. A lot of work by manufacturers of these products has gone into reducing the discomfort with this hair removal method. The best of these techniques seems to be the inclusion of a massage element which soothes the skin as you go. For example, the Braun Silk Epil pictured has “4-way moving massaging rollers stimulate skin with micro pulses before and after hair is removed to minimize pulling sensation”.

Bikini Hair Removal Methods

There is no fundamental change in the hair removing methods for the bikini line, but you will find that, as the years have gone by, all salons and clinics are now well practiced in the techniques and so you should have an easier time of it. If you had turned up at a salon twenty years ago for bikini line waxing, chances are you would have been made to feel awkward and the beauty therapist would have been struggling a bit. Not so any more. You can expect to feel at ease and the whole operation will be carried out smoothly and quickly.
