If you have decided that you would like to try electrolysis to permanently remove hair but are hesitating about embarking on months of costly treatment you may have thought about investing in an electrolysis machine to carry out the treatment yourself at home.

If you are thinking of buying a home electrolysis machine you need to be aware that there are a quite a few that don’t work. I’ll say more on that in a moment but first of all I want to make sure it is clear that even those electrolysis home kits which work are not for everyone. I have written about this before but I’ll say it again in case you are new to this site.

You see you need quite a bit of patience to carry out electrolysis on yourself. The operators of a professional electrolysis machine are trained beauticians and they go through a stringent certification before they are let loose on the public. So it stands to reason that you can’t immediately dive in and whisk away all your hair in 5 minutes.

Also the process itself can be slow as you are working on each individual hair. You will be surprised at how many little unwanted hairs there are in a square inch of skin. And you need to catch each one at the right stage of growth – or it grows back!

If you are thinking of treating your face, I would also advise that you get a bit of practice on less sensitive areas of the body and work up to any more sensitive areas. All in all this can take a fair bit of time. But then so does professional electrolysis. In that too you have to treat each individual hair at the right stage of growth.

If you think you do have the necessary patience and want to try out electrolysis at home avoid any system that says it works by grasping the hair and shooting an electric current through it. These systems are ineffective for permanently removing hair.

The electrolysis systems which work are those with a probe which you insert into the hair follicle without breaking the skin. The only system that exists like this as far as I know for the home market is the One Touch. Take a look at the Reviews on Amazon and see what you think. They are not all good by far but you won’t see any system with better reviews because of the inherent difficulty in the electrolysis process (unless the reviews are fake that is!)

Once treated the hair should come out quite easily and is removed with tweezers.

There are electrolysis machines for home use which work in the same way. You will find that it takes patience to learn to use them properly and you should always practice on an unobtrusive area like your leg before moving onto a sensitive area like your face especially as you can damage your skin if you do not follow the instructions.

The problem with electrolysis is that it is slow. Bad enough that you have to treat one hair at a time but the fact remains that one treatment may not be enough to remove hair permanently. With this hair removal system, the hair will grow back if you do not treat it when it is in the right stage of growth or if you miss the follicle or if the current is not strong enough. If you persevere however you will eventually kill all the hair follicles for good, which is not true of any other method. Professional laser hair removal is quicker than electrolysis (by far) as a whole group of hairs are treated with one pulse of the laser. You will still need a number of sessions (probably about six) for best results as you still have to reach the pesky hairs at the right stage of growth. The treatment generally results in a permanent reduction in hair though some hair will often grow back and you will need top up treatments to deal with any regrowth. If you want to cut the cost of laser hair removal treatment which can set you back a thousand or more, why not buy a home laser hair removal machine. These typically cost a few hundred and you can treat yourself over and over, without worrying about the cost of the initial treatment or the top ups.

Of course these home hair removal systems are not as powerful as the ones which cost tens of thousands which professional laser hair removal clinics use and they are generally designed to treat just a few hairs at a time as well so you will need to spend longer treating yourself and the results may not be so dramatic so quickly. But if you understand that and have a bit of patience you can save huge amounts and your whole body can be hair free by treating yourself regularly until the hair is gone in the comfort of your own home. With laser home hair removal, top ups can be done as needed, no need for vast additional expense and inconvenience at the clinic. However take care if you do not have fair skin and dark hair as you may need a specialist machine in a clinic for successful treatment rather than an all-purpose home hair removal machine.

When it comes to choosing home laser hair removal systems, the main thing to watch out for are that the machine is approved by the FDA for home use. This will be true of all machines sold in the US. If you live elsewhere look for an equivalent accreditation in your country especially if advertising standards are not so strict or choose a machine which is approved for the U.S.m, which is also sold in your country. Also look at the number of hairs that can be treated with one pulse as this will determine the time it will take you to treat yourself. Best Electrolysis Machines to Use at Home

Electrolysis is the only method of removing hair permanently for everyone. While laser hair removal can cause a significant reduction in hair growth, it does not work well for those with dark skin or light hair, and in many cases top up treatments are required to deal with regrowth. The problem with electrolysis is how slow it is. To clear an area of any size of unwanted hair can take many months of treatment. Each hair has to be treated with the electrolysis probe individually and it will only kill the hair if the hair is in the right stage of growth and the probe hits the hair follicle in the right place and with enough current to kill it.

Because it is such a slow process, electrolysis can be expensive. The cost of all those treatments mounts up and it can be pretty inconvenient to get to all the appointments too, especially if you have a busy job or young kids or both. As a result, it can be a practical alternative to use an electrolysis machine at home.

But what are the best electrolysis machines to use?

The main thing to look for in a machine for home use, is the way the procedure is performed. There are some manufacturers which produce an “at home electrolysis machine” but when you read how it is supposed to work, it is entirely different from the machines which professionals use. Avoid these products because they do not work. They are often described as painless or pain-free. This is a bad sign. If you cannot have effective professional electrolysis without pain, then you can’t achieve the same at home either.

Most of the ineffective machines are supposed to work by gripping each hair with electric tweezers and then applying the current. The current is supposed to travel down the hair to the root and kill it after you grip the hair for a number of seconds. Believe me, no hairs will be killed and you will waste a lot of precious time trying and wondering where you are going wrong. There are some quite expensive machines in this category such as the Aavexx 300 or 349 range and the Vector Electrolysis System too. You will not get great results from these despite the expense.

The professional machines always have a probe which you insert beside the hair follicle and the current is passed down the probe to reach the root of the hair where it is needed. To get the best electrolysis at home, your machine needs to do that too. There are machines at all price ranges. If you are on a very low budget the best home electrolysis machine is the One Touch which is less than $50 but there are also machines which are more robust and closer to professional machines such as the V2R Professional Electrolysis System for Permanent Hair Removal. The latter will set you back a few hundred dollars though.

Actually I would start with the One touch and see if you have the patience for the whole process before you go spending a lot on a more professional machine. It takes practice to learn to perform electrolysis effectively and you may find that you give up before you get anywhere if you are not highly motivated to get rid of your unwanted hair for good. Also, don’t start on your face. Electrolysis is one of the best means of getting rid of facial hair but if you are not careful with your machine and use too high a setting you may damage your skin a bit and you can better do that on your leg than your face.

In fact, many professional electrologists are reluctant to work on their own faces as it is difficult to get the angle right for inserting the probe. Again it is a case of how motivated you are and prepared to practice and take care to do things slowly whether you will be ultimately successful even if you own one of the best electrolysis machines.
