Welcome to the Simply Hair Removal Blog

Although not much changes in the world of hair removal (after all many hair removal methods we use today originate in ancient times) I do come across information and tips fairly frequently in my work as a Health and Beauty writer and I wanted a place to share them quickly with you.

If you know of or happen to come across any hair removal tips, please let me know and I will pass them on to help your fellow readers.  You can use the contact page on the main Simply Hair Removal site or leave a comment on this (or any other) post.

Should Threading be Regulated?

Threading is growing in popularity as a means to remove facial hair – in particular keeping eyebrows neat – and a growing number of beauty salons are starting to offer it.

But while licenses are required for almost all beauty and spa treatments in California and other parts of the USA, legislators are still deliberating about regulating this practice. Although the procedure has been done for thousands of years threading is something which girls of Middle Eastern and Asian origin mostly learn at home and there is no official training.

Update : This post originally pointed to an article which is no longer available in the San Jose Mercury News about the dangers of unregulated threading and how hair removal legislation needs to catch up with actual practice. However if practicing technicians needed a hair removal license how would that be granted as there is no official training? It’s a bit of a catch 22.

Bikini Wax Bars

I just heard that Superdrug are going to be opening bikini waxing bars around the UK this summer – somehow I don’t think they will be as popular as the nail bars which have sprung up like mushrooms in a damp field.

For one thing they would have to be pretty private before anyone will be ready to strip off – something you don’t usually associate with a bar – it’s definitely not like getting your nails done at Harvey Nicks with a few girl pals and champagne on ice – and for another they had better be pretty sound-proofed lest the yelps of pain put off potential customers.

Update 2009 : I though I’d check up to see if the bikini waxing bars had taken off. I mean I couldn’t really believe this would be successful and I have never seen one in the local Superdrug stores. A Google search didn’t throw up much other than this post so I guess bikini waxing on the high street is not going to happen (in the UK at least) – and thank goodness for that. I don’t want to hear howls of pain when I go to buy soap and deodorant :)

Bikini Wax not without risks

A 20 year old woman in Australia had to be admitted to the emergency room and nearly died two weeks after having a bikini wax treatment at her local salon.

The woman had type 1 diabetes which meant that she was more prone to suffer from infection – but anyone with a compromised immune system should also be aware of bikini wax risks.

The woman was allowed home after 10 days in hospital – a huge price to pay for a beauty treatment which was just meant to remove unwanted hair.

Don't let bikini waxing put you in danger

Always make sure you go to a reputable salon for any type of waxing and keep the area clean after waxing to reduce risks from bikini line and Brazilian waxing.

Also if you do have any unusual symptoms after attending a beauty clinic for a procedure such as bikini hair removal or any kind of invasive procedure, be sure to get to your doctor right away and not wait until things take a serious turn.
