Brazilian Hair Removal

I have to confess I never tried Brazilian hair removal in my life. I’m such a coward. The whole idea is a pain too far for me even after going through childbirth twice – and maybe because I no longer wear the tiny skimpy bikinis that I could a few years ago as a result of said childbirth it never seems quite the necessity that it might otherwise have done. A bit of tidying up down there in the summertime is as much as I get time for these days and I confess it does feel good when I wear my swimsuit and there are no stragglers showing, so I quite understand if Brazilian bikini hair removal is something you want to look into.

There are only really a couple of processes that you can use for genital hair removal if you want the full Brazilian (leaving just a thin “landing strip” of hair at the front), which is what you really need if you want no hair showing at all in the tiniest of bikinis and especially if you wear a thong.

Brazilian Wax Hair Removal

This is the most common form of Brazilian and it is easy to find a beauty therapist experienced in the procedure at most salons. The more experienced the therapist the more they will put you at your ease, carry out the process as painlessly as possible and do what they can to protect your modesty during the treatment difficult though that is given where you’re removing hair from. Friends who have this done tell me that there is nothing to fear about the pain. It is quickly over and then forgotten and then they are delighted with the results which last for about 4 weeks. Feel free to have a go and share your experiences by leaving a comment!

Brazilian Laser Hair Removal

Now I think if I was going to have a Brazilian I would be saving up my money for this because after a few sessions you experience a reduction in hair growth which might very well mean not having to deal with the pubic hair problem again or just having a few top up treatments to keep things neat. And by all accounts this is less painful than waxing “down there”. The cost of Brazilian bikini laser hair removal will be around $1000 for a few sessions so it’s not cheap but if you add up the cost of getting waxed regularly it will easily pay for itself over a few years. Lasers have become more effective in recent years and if you have a good technician you should get some great results with it.

Other Brazilian Hair Removal Methods

As for other methods you could shave but you are likely to get a rash and the area is awkward to deal with. I would say fine for a trim but not for a full Brazilian. As for depilatory cream it is fine (and effective) for the bikini line but there is no such thing as a Brazilian hair removal cream. The chemicals in the cream are not made for use on your more sensitive areas.

New Hair Removal Treatments

I am constantly on the lookout for new hair removal treatments because the ones that we have at the moment are far from ideal in one shape or form. Every one has a significant disadvantage.

Laser Hair Removal

If you look at laser hair removal treatments, then the main disadvantage is cost (see Average laser hair removal price) and of course, it does not work well on some coloring types as the equipment relies on targeting the pigment in hair and avoiding the pigment in skin. If they are too similar or there’s not much pigment in your hair then it’s a problem. In a nutshell, it means laser treatment for hair removal is not great for you if you have dark skin or fair hair.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone

Even if you are a good candidate for treatment there is the inconvenience of getting to the clinic (hopefully there is one near you) for several sessions and you have to suffer the pain of having a laser beam directed at your skin. Of course, it’s not so much actual agonizing pain as the discomfort of having a whole heap of mini rubber bands pinged at you one after the other in quick succession but you’d still rather not suffer it.

Electrolysis

Of the permanent hair removal treatments available, however, laser hair treatment still has a lot to offer because the other one, electrolysis, works well on everyone but it is very slow especially if you need or want to treat a large area such as your back or legs.

You will need many electrolysis sessions over a long time and the costs mount up for that too. Each hair has to be dealt with individually and usually more than once as they are only killed if you zap them in the right place and at the right stage in the growth cycle. That means many inconvenient appointments at the salon for months on end! Still, it is the best of the facial hair removal treatments on offer at the moment because it gets rid of the problem permanently and you’ll never suffer any regrowth.

Temporary Hair Removal Methods

Even though laser treatment and electrolysis involve inconvenient sessions at a salon or clinic, it’s not to say that anything else is any more convenient. Every other hair removal treatment has to be done over and over again because the hair grows back – and a lot quicker than you want it to. The main salon treatment for unwanted hair is waxing and that is painful too. It will leave your skin red and sore for a few hours but at least it only needs to be redone every few weeks. Nevertheless it’s the best temporary solution we have at the moment for keeping you hair free and smooth for a while and it can be used on all parts of the body. Threading hair removal would be a contender in the salon treatments you can have for hair removal but it is generally only practiced (at least in the west) on the face.

So these hair removal methods are basically the only treatments you can have at the moment to get hair removed. I’m always amazed that they have not come up with anything new in the last 40 or so years (since laser hair removal became a possibility). Surely someone could have invented some smart new hair removal treatments by now – you know the one that is cheap, permanent, fast and pain free. We can but live in hope.

Which Lady Shaver?

A lady shaver is an electric shaver specially designed for use by women mainly on legs and under arms. Most are wet and dry shavers meaning that they can be used in and out of the shower on wet or dry skin. This makes them particularly useful. The main advantage of using an electric ladies shaver for hair removal is that you can’t cut yourself in the same way that you can with a normal razor. Like any kind of shaving, lady shavers are a quick method of getting rid of unwanted hair and pain free too (but unfortunately it grows back just as fast whether you use an electric shaver or a manual razor). In any case, it is convenient to be able to use the shaver on dry skin so you can “tidy up” quite quickly if you tend to leave things until the last minute.

If you have not used an electric lady shaver before you may be wondering how to choose one. There are so many on the market and to be honest, there is not an awful lot to distinguish between them. Here are a few things to consider when you buy a lady shaver:-

1. Shaver Head

The head of the lady shave is the part that comes into contact with your skin when removing hair. The lady shaver will have either a foil or trimmer type head. It is useful if the head is changeable as different shaver heads may suit different parts of you body and that way you get to experiment and find the best combination of head to use. Also a removable head helps with cleaning your lady shaver.

2. Style and Color

For the most part this is purely personal preference. If you’re going to use your shaver in the shower look for a shape that will be easy to grip.

3. Battery or Mains

Battery operated shavers are useful if you want to use your shaver in the shower or bath (mains power is not advisable in that case) and you can get shavers with normal batteries and those with rechargeable batteries. A rechargeable shaver means you will not run out of batteries and it will be less expensive to maintain.

4. Waterproof

Can the shaver be used in the shower and on both wet and dry skin?

5. Any Extras Included

You usually get items such as a travel pouch, cleaning brush and batteries along with your lady shave. The extras generally don’t provide a compelling enough reason to buying one shaver over another. Some have attachments for different parts of the body such as a bikini attachment (see the Panasonic lady shaver pictured) which may be useful to you. Some shavers have a lubricating system which may be useful if you have very sensitive skin. If you are looking for an epilator (a kind of hair plucker machine) you can sometimes get one which has an alternative head which can be used as a lady shaver. This will only be worth it (in terms of price) if you will use the epilator regularly along with the shaving head as epilators are generally more expensive than lady shavers.

6. Guarantee

You will generally get a one year guarantee with your shaver. Check that you do.

7. Brand

Look for a well known brand you trust and pay a bit more or pick up an unknown make for very little Some well-known brands other than the Panasonic are the Braun lady shaver and the Remington lady shaver.

8. Price

Most well-known brands of ladies electric shaver are around the same price but look for special offers and discounts where you can save quite a bit. You’ll find a whole selection here.

Laser Hair Removal for the Face

If you have been thinking about getting some laser facial hair removal work done, here are what I consider essential for you to know – the key laser hair removal face facts and tips.

  • Laser hair removal is one of the most popular methods of facial hair removal for women – some men use it too, especially those who are going through transgender transformation. A beard is much tougher to remove than typical female facial hair however and may need additional sessions.
  • The cost of laser hair removal is less for the face than for any other area of the body simply because of the small area of skin being treated. Typical laser hair removal for the face cost (upper lip) is around $80 a session with 3 to 5 sessions being needed. If you are looking to get extensive work done around the hairline and neck as well as sideburns and upper lip you can expect a higher price.
  • information

When you're considering ANY hair removal treatment, but especially laser hair removal on your face get as much information as you can

  • The face is one of the most sensitive areas in the body so you will feel some discomfort during laser treatment. It will feel like you are being pinged with tiny little rubber bands many time a minute. That can be quite sore. Ask about pain relief when you go for your initial consultation. You will probably be given a cooling gel after treatment to help reduce irritation.
  • Your facial skin will look a little red after your session so don’t plan any important engagements just after having laser treatment on your face. If possible don’t plan anything the day of your first treatment so you can see how your skin reacts and to be on the safe side maybe the day after too.
  • Facial laser treatment works less well on those with dark skin. As the laser targets the pigment in hair and relies on it being darker than the surrounding skin there is a fine line to tread between ineffective treatment on the hair and burning the skin with that type of coloring. Also if you have fair, gray or red hair there may not be enough pigment in the hair for the laser to work on. Some machines are now available which work with different colors of skin and hair but the treatment is still likely to be less effective.
  • Dealing with face hair by laser removal can be life transforming for some especially if you have been struggling with other methods for some time and not finding any of them satisfactory. If facial hair is causing you distress it is worth trying laser hair removal for sure if you have the type of skin which works well with laser treatment
  • Do not go out in the sun before and after facial laser hair removal, use a sun bed or a fake tanning product. You want the difference in your skin and hair to be as marked as possible. Also do not bleach your upper lip hair for best results!
  • Laser face hair removal has only one rival in effectiveness. Electrolysis is the only proven permanent method of dealing with facial hair for everyone. It is long and slow compared with laser treatment but it does work and is the best method of permanent hair removal if you have dark skin or fair hair.

Looking For a Permanent Hair Remover?

If you’re looking for an effective permanent hair remover then you’re in good company. It is what we would all like to see but there are only a couple of processes that can really be described as having any sort of permanence (electrolysis and laser hair removal) and neither are that easy to translate into a product that you can use yourself to remove hair permanently.

Having said that there are a few products which will do the job although none of them will turn you into a permanent hair removing wizard overnight. Just take care about the products that promise the earth and don’t deliver. There are many more of those “miracle” products around than products you will have a realistic chance of success with. The effectiveness of the product is generally in inverse proportion to the hype about permanent hair removal in the advertisements however.

hunting down permanent hair remover

The hunt is always on for an effective permanent hair remover...

If you’re worried about buying a product check out the reviews on this blog and if you don’t see what you are looking for please ask in the comments. I have probably seen all those scams in my time and I wince when I read a lot of the ads because I know people will be taken in by them and waste their money.

So which permanent hair removers would I recommend? Well, recommend is maybe too strong a word because you will definitely need to be the right kind of person to have success with them. These products are simply not for you if you think you can zap your hair in half an hour and be done with it forever. These are tools which, if used with a bit of skill and patience, can give you permanent results.

The important words of course are skill and patience. To get the skill to use them takes both time and practice but if you’re highly motivated to get rid of unwanted hair you will be able to gain whatever techniques you need to succeed. Patience comes in because apart from the time taken to learn to use the hair removal equipment you are also going to need to spend time on each hair (in the case of the electrolysis product) or each small group of hairs (in the case of the laser hair removal product). And you will probably need to treat the hairs more than once as you have to catch them at the right stage of growth.

If you have read this far however you probably have the patience to make a success of using home equipment like this so here are the products, which are both available at a discount through the links:-
